OP Talks opens Women’s History Month 2022 with a conversation between feminist theologian Dr. Xochitl Alvizo and Dr. Néstor Medina about why embracing more expansive language matters in theology matters. Dr. Alvizo, who identifies as Protestant, grew up in a family that was part of a Spanish-speaking Catholic church in Los Angeles. One day, a friend asked, “Why do the critiques that feminist theologians bring to our God-talk in English not also apply to your God-talk in Spanish?” The question has led Dr. Alvizo to creatively explore the gains of daring to address God in a new way.
