Benedictine Blackboard

High-school religion teacher Stephen Adubato illuminates the cracks in postmodernism

Stephen Adubato teaches religion and philosophy at St. Benedict’s Preparatory School, where he is Director of Campus Ministry & Community Service. Operated since 1868 by the Benedictine monks of Newark Abbey in New Jersey, St. Benedict’s “prepares boys and girls in and around Newark to fulfill their potential as emotionally mature, morally responsible and well-educated citizens.” The K-12 school “offers a rigorous curriculum that sharpens the mind, shapes the character and nourishes the spirit.”

In his blog Cracks in Postmodernity, Adubato documents his experiences in the classroom and in the world, examining life's "many facets through the lenses of theology, philosophy, education, and culture”—his attempt to "sort through postmodern culture, looking for cracks through which authentic meaning and beauty can emerge."

As schools worldwide reopen in a climate of uncertainty, Open Plaza enters September with three timely selections of Adubato’s writings.
